The Franconian Society is an international, English-speaking club founded in Erlangen in 1984 promoting fellowship, cultural awareness and charitable causes. On the 1st Friday of each month there is a "Stammtisch Evening" when members and guests of all ages come together and chat over dinner prior to the evening programme. This might be an illustrated talk or lecture, information about a sponsored charity, or an activity that everyone can engage in such as a light-hearted quiz or card evening…

The society offers its members a variety of other activities throughout the year which are listed in our informative and amusing newsletter published every two months. Among the regular events are Dinner Club evenings, walking tours, trips to local and regional museums and exhibitions, literary nights. One-day and two-day excursions to places of interest beyond Erlangen are extremely popular and take place several times a year.

The society’s work to promote a variety of charities and worthy causes in Erlangen and in the wider world is well known. Money is raised through our (extremely low) membership fees, donations from individual members, selling second-hand books, or, if possible, surplus income from excursions and trips.

Also in our newsletters you will find our "Letter from the President", highlighting past events and calling attention to future ones, in addition to a section titled "Aspects of Franconia" with articles on a variety of people, places and things found in Franconia. We have included two recent Letters and Aspects articles below.

You can get a more in-depth view of who we are by clicking the links below to download a pdf of the topic (the links expand to reveal the content within the section) and from 2018, should you have missed one, you can find an archive copy our newsletter, "The Franconian".
